Control a power wheelchair with iPhone and iPod Touch

iphone3g3gs_ipodtouch_wheelchairDynamic Controls have integrated the iPhone and iPod Touch to its power wheelchair electronics.

Basically, the wheelchair user mounts his/her iPhone or iPod Touch on a cradle that is attached to the wheelchair system. Using the Apple device, the user will be able to control the wheelchair. Also, information such as detailed chair information in real time, a compass and the speed (km and mph) will also be displayed on the Apple device. GENIUS!!!!

Charlotte Walshe, Dynamic Controls CEO said:

“We recognized the iPhone has revolutionized the way people communicate and saw the opportunity to develop this solution for wheelchair users, taking full advantage of Apple’s ‘Works with iPod / Made for iPhone’ developer program.”

An important benefit of this solution includes the “chair doctor” wheelchair diagnostics feature that interprets problems with the wheelchair. Let’s not forget that the iPhone or iPod Touch is charging at the same time, so no issue of draining the battery there.

Additional features include:

  • Displaying the status of wheelchair, through to computer mouse control.
  • IR and WiFi appliance control on-chair connected devices
  • Direct access to Dynamic Controls’ website with content of interest to wheelchair users.
  • Dynamic Controls unveiled its latest technology at REHACARE in Germany, the world’s top trade fair for those with special needs and requiring care.

Works with iPhone 3G / 3GS, iPod touch 2nd and 3rd generations. It can be fitted to any new or existing Dynamic Controls DX2, DX or Shark wheelchair control systems without reprogramming the wheelchair.
