This is a very easy and simple guide for all Jailbroken iPhone and iPod Touch devices on how to change the “default” SSH Password and also turn OFF SSH when not in use.
I decided to write this guide because I have posted a few too many posts about jailbroken iPhone’s being “hacked” lately.
Follow this simple guide to prevent “hackers” infiltrating your jailbroken device and steel personal information. Let’s put Apple to the test.
BRING IT ON !
Section 1 – How to Change the “default” SSH password
1- Go to Cydia from your springboard (home screen) and search for MobileTerminal. Press on Install from the top right hand side of the screen.
2- You will now have MobileTerminal installed on the springboard. Press to launch MobileTerminal.
3- Now type this command, passwd
4- It will prompt you to enter your old password, type alpine
5- Now enter a new password, you have to do this twice to confirm.
Your DONE !!
Section 2 – How to turn OFF SSH when not in use
If you’re not using SSH, I recommend you turn it OFF using SBSettings. Those of you who already have it installed go to SBSettings and tap the SSH button to turn it OFF.

Those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about and don’t have SBSettings installed, just go to cydia and search for SBSettings. Once installed, from your Spring Board (home screen) swipe your finger on top where the time is displayed to access SBSettings. You can will see the SSH icon, tap it to dis-activate. That’s it, it’s that easy!
